The iconic sitting frog from Matsumoto Hoji’s plate in the 1814 album Meika Gafu (“Pictures by Celebrated Artists”), preserved in the British Museum. A single expressive amphibian with a white belly — separate from the tea-whisking and round “Pudgy” frogs often misbundled under Hoji’s name.
