The Zojoji Temple by Hasui Kawase - Giant Poster
Description
This Ukiyo-e woodblock print of Hasui's masterpiece The Zojoji Temple (1934) shows the main gate of the Zojoji temple in Shiba park, Tokyo.
Snow is falling and the street is deserted, save for a young woman who is sheltering herself with an umbrella. It is done in the traditional Ukiyo-e style with a slight touch of modern artistic execution. The crimson temple gate, the green foliage of the pine tree, and the white snow—the combination of these simple colors a wonderfully impressive effect is realized.
